Growing up LGBT+ is still unacceptably tough. To help change this, Lakeside School takes part in School Diversity Week, a week to better understand, celebrate and empower LGBTQ+ young people. It is also an opportunity to challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are facts of life for LGBT+ young people growing up: 25% attempt suicide, 50% self-harm and 86% still hear homophobic remarks. These experiences can have a life-long negative impact on LGBT+ young people’s potential and wellbeing.
Lakeside School celebrates diversity and individuality, supporting all pupils to grow up happy in themselves, and understanding the importance of LGBT+ equality.
